A FLUTTER OF BUTTERFLIES
Bangalore has an amazing diversity of close to 170 species of butterflies. The bright coloration, patterns and dainty flight of these winged jewels brings joy to many. Butterflies love a sunny day and a garden or meadow filled with their favourite plants.
A multinational corporation, WIPRO, pursued a special interest in butterflies. They collaborated with ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) to set up an ornamental butterfly garden within their large corporate campus.
As part of this project, I got an opportunity to illustrate for their butterfly brochure. Among the painting series, this main artwork was illustrated to give the viewer a visual glimpse of a vibrant butterfly garden. Illustrated here are the common butterflies we would see in an urban city like Bangalore, along with their specific nectar and host plants.
