KING COBRA HATCHLINGS

King Cobra’s are known to be the only snakes in the world that build a nest for their eggs, which they guard ferociously until the hatchlings emerge. Even the little King Cobra hatchling possess potent venom from birth.

It was early August, I reached Agumbe just in time for the baby kings to break open their    shells and emerge. I sat watching their tiny heads pop out, venturing out boldly, but slowly.  Their paused, extremely slow movements gave me ample time to observe and sketch in my field notes. Back in my studio in Bangalore, I added the finer details and recreated this sketch.
