YELLOW-THROATED MARTEN (Martes flavigula)

These weasel-like fiesty hunters are known to take on prey much larger than themselves. With a varied omnivore diet, they drink nectar, gorge on figs, attack beehives, prey on rodents, snakes, birds, eggs; and in packs, they can bring down small deer and monkeys too. They are small, but fierce.

First sightings are always a memorable affair. Going about it’s usual forest patrol, the Marten caught sight of us, seconds before we spotted it too. We got a good long glimpse of the Marten, as it went bounding off into the canopy, on dense moss laden branches. Thrilled with my sighting, I froze the moment of the first glimpse within this painting.
